You can use those bright yellow weeds growing in your backyard to make a dandelion salve. Its moisturizing and great for sore muscles, achy and arthritic joints, and dry cracked skin.
Put the dried dandelion flowers into a jar of any size (you can make as much or as little as you want) and cover them with the carrier oil of your choice.
If you use coconut oil, it's helpful to melt it first, or use the hot extraction method. Let your dandelion oil sit in a dark place for 2-3 weeks, but not too much longer than that as it can spoil pretty quickly.
Strain out the flowers using a fine mesh strainer and a clean cheese cloth.
Store the jar in a dark cool place until ready to use. Will last 9 months to a year if stored properly.
Dandelion Salve
Create a makeshift double boiler by putting a heat safe bowl or a glass Pyrex measuring cup over a pot with about an inch of simmering water. Make sure the water isn't directly toughing the bowl.
Put the dandelion oil, beeswax and shea butter into bowl or Pyrex. Heat until its all dissolved, stirring occasionally.
Stir in the essential oils if using.
Carefully pour the mixture into small jars or tins and let sit until the salve sets up completely.
