Step 1: Make the Dandelion Infused Oil

To make these bars you’ll need to first make a dandelion flower infused oil. Find out how to do that here!

Try making this Dandelion Salve recipe with your infused oil

With proper storage in a cool, dark place, the infused oil should be good for around 9 months to a year.

Step 2: Make the Dandelion Lotion Bars

I usually make a batch using
1/2 cup dandelion infused oil
3 oz beeswax
4 oz shea butter

That amount will fill almost two dozen small (one-inch) molds or several larger sized shapes. For molds, you can use candy molds, silicone molds, or even canning lids.

You can store smaller sizes in a jar or tins out of direct heat and hot areas. Whenever your skin feels dry or rough, just rub the bar over your skin. The heat of your body will melt it just enough to leave a light moisturizing layer.

  • Silicone mold

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Dandelion infused oil
  • 3 oz Beeswax
  • 4 oz Shea butter
  • Essential oils Lavender, orange, mint, lemon

Instructions

Dandelion Oil

  • Put the dried dandelion flowers into a jar of any size (you can make as much or as little as you want) and cover them with the carrier oil of your choice .If you use coconut oil, it's helpful to melt it first, or use the hot extraction method.
  • Let your dandelion oil sit in a dark place for 2-3 weeks, but not too much longer than that as it can spoil pretty quickly.
  • Strain out the flowers using a fine mesh strainer and a clean cheese cloth.
Store the jar in a dark cool place until ready to use. Will last 9 months to a year if stored properly.

Dandelion Lotion Bars

  • Create a makeshift double boiler by putting a heat safe bowl, glass Pyrex measuring cup (or canning jar for ease of clean up) over a pot with about an inch of simmering water. Make sure the water isn't directly toughing the bowl.
  • Put the dandelion oil, beeswax and shea butter into bowl or Pyrex. Heat until its all dissolved, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in the essential oils if using.
  • Carefully pour the mixture into silicone molds or canning lids and let sit until the bars set up completely.
  • Once fully set, pop bars out of their molds. Store smaller molds in a jar and larger individually in tins make great gifts.
  • Store out of direct heat and hot areas. Whenever your skin feels dry or rough, just rub the bar over your skin. The heat of your body will melt it just enough to leave a light moisturizing layer.
    Enjoy!
