Why You Should Make Your Own Pancake Mix:

  1. Cost-Effective: Homemade pancake mix costs a fraction of what you’d pay for store-bought. If you’re making pancakes regularly, this bulk mix will save you money over time.
  2. Quick and Easy: Having this mix stored in your pantry means you can make pancakes in no time without the need to gather ingredients every time you want breakfast.
  3. Customizable: You can adjust the recipe to suit your tastes. If you like your pancakes on the sweeter side, add a little more sugar. If you want to make them dairy-free, simply use a dairy-free milk and oil.
  4. No Artificial Additives: Most store-bought pancake mixes contain added preservatives and artificial ingredients. By making your own, you avoid those and stick to wholesome, natural ingredients.

Homemade Bulk Pancake Mix

Total Time 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar

To make 12 pancakes

  • 2 cups pancake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  • Stir well to ensure that all the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
  • Transfer the dry mix into an airtight container or a large resealable bag. Make sure it’s sealed tightly to keep moisture out.
  • Store it in a cool, dry place like your pantry.
  • This mix will last for up to 3 months, so you’ll always have pancake mix on hand for a quick breakfast.

To Make Pancakes from Your Mix:

  • In a bowl, combine 2 cups of your bulk pancake mix with 2 cups of milk, 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons of melted butter or oil, and a splash of vanilla extract.
  • Stir until the ingredients are just combined—don’t overmix! The batter should still be a little lumpy.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease with butter or oil. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook for another 1–2 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Serve your pancakes with syrup, fresh fruit, or your favorite toppings!

Notes

Storage:
Store your bulk pancake mix in an airtight container or resealable bag in a cool, dry place (like your pantry). It will stay fresh for up to 3 months. For longer storage, you can keep it in the freezer, and it will last up to 6 months.
Scaling the Recipe:
This recipe makes a large batch of pancake mix, but you can easily adjust the quantities to make a smaller batch if needed. Simply divide the ingredients by half or quarter, depending on how much mix you want to make.

  • If you prefer thicker pancakes, use less liquid; for thinner pancakes, add more milk.

  • Add your favorite mix-ins, chocolate chips, blueberries.
